ICT in schools

A lot of interest today in announcements over the border on ICT teaching in the classroom. Back in September, I announced the setting up of a task and finish group on digital classroom teaching, chaired by Janet Hayward, Headteacher of Cadoxton Primary, whose previous school, Barry Island, won the Becta award for top ICT school in the UK. I met Janet before Christmas and the work she and her colleagues are doing is very encouraging. I hope to get their report before the end of March. I will post links later to the Written Statement I made on this on 22nd September, but it can be found on the Welsh Government website.

Ystradyfodwg Art Society in the Pierhead

I was pleased to welcome the Ystradyfodwg Art Society to the Assembly's Pierhead Building where they are holding an exhibition of their very diverse and interesting work over the next four weeks in the Upper Gallery. If you are visiting the Assembly, do pop along and see it!

Rhondda Labour Centenary

100 years ago tomorrow the Rhondda Labour Party was accepted into membership of the British Labour Party. We held a celebration event with Llafur, the Society for the Study of Welsh Labour History, on Saturday.

Here you can see displayed some of the banners we have had made which will be on display in our Tonypandy office.

Treorchy Sorting Office

Chris Bryant MP and I were invited to visit a sorting office in the Rhondda by the Royal Mail. We chose the Treorchy sorting office which has been under threat.

Strike

I was pleased to join members of the GMB, Unison and Unite on 3 Rhondda picket lines this morning, at Clydach Vale, Ty Elai and Bronwydd.
