I am delighted that we have been able to announce today that we are collaborating with British Gas in creating a Green Skills Training Academy in the Heads of the Valleys.
Bad weather prevented us holding the ceremony to dedicate the plaque to Spanish Civil War international brigadier Frank Owen actually at the bridge where the plaque stands. However, we held the event in Teify Hall in Maerdy instead, with the Cor Cochion from Cardiff and the Labour chorus from New York. A video of the New York choir is on Rhondda TV. I spoke about the links between the Rhondda and the fight for democracy in Spain, as I have before. Frank Owen died in Spain as did others from the Rhondda. I was pleased to meet members of Frank Owen's family including his 91 year-old brother Arnold.
On Monday we said a very sad goodbye to Theresa King, former Labour councillor for Ystrad and a stalwart of the Rhondda Labour Women's Forum. Theresa was a fantastic campaigner and is seen on the right of the photograph above. I was pleased to see such a fulsome tribute to her in the Echo and the Rhondda Leader today. Our thoughts are with her husband Jack and all her family.
The Guardian has an interesting page on its website where it is encouraging people to help map censorship of the Internet across the world. Unfortunately, when I looked at it in the Assembly Chamber, the Assembly internet Filtering software censored it.
